A True Normal

By Jeff Isaacs

We are living in a society that is pushing lies from the Enemy down the our throats and the throats of our children. We know that the Enemy has made his way into the classroom and upper education with the lie of evolution. It would appear the agenda that is being pushed from the Enemy at this time is to accept what is unnatural as natural. The hot topic everywhere has to be homosexuality, gender identity issues and trying to redefine God’s plan for marriage. It is evident that the media is wanting to make sure we see the “new normal”  is what the Bible calls sinful, and they want to call “natural” what is actually unnatural. (Sidenote-As Christians, this is a sin issue, but we must understand gossip, impurity, drunkenness, greed, pride, and lying are also sins. For the sake of this article, I will be focusing on the particular sin issue that is front and center in our society.)

I recently read an article that spoke to how Disney is excited to be part of this push for us to accept as normal what God does not. (Read https://answersingenesis.org/family/homosexuality/time-to-kiss-disney-goodbye/) As a Christian (and as a parent), I must consider what I will allow my support to go towards. It seems like you can’t turn on the TV or a Netflix series without having to be confronted with material that flies in the face of Scripture. (I did watch a lot of Andy Griffith on my sabbatical and that seemed to go pretty well.)

What has God called us to do in response to the crisis? We must be as Jesus would have us be; loving and encouraging, but not condoning behavior that is against Scripture. We must pray for those who struggle, and be Jesus with skin on to those who struggle with this sin or attraction. There are good Christian resources and counselors available if you know of anyone struggling with same-sex attraction, or living in the homosexual lifestyle. Listen to Paul’s words in Ephesians.

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. Ephesians 5:1-12

I am not going to be one to tell you to boycott Disney, that is a decision between you and the Lord, not one your pastor should make for you.

I will tell you that you need to pray about taking a stand for what the Bible says is “normal” for the Christian life.

The ironic thing about the normal of the world and the normal of the Christ-follower is that they wind up in different places.

Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” Matthew 7:13-14
